Project Description:
The scope of the project is that of developing a technique to analyse the RNA of plants so as to detect the full gene expression and in particular the presence of genetically modified species in a fast and reliable fashion. The project will make use of techniques such as polimerase chain reaction and biomagnetic techniques to extract, purify, hybridise and amplify the mRNA of plants and assess the genetic expression. The technology will be an invaluable aid for the safe development of geneticallly modified technology and will allow for the prompt detection of dangerous species before they can be inserted in the food chain. The project will embark on a full-scale development of the technology that will also be validated against more established and reliable but cumbersome techniques such as DNA analysis and will compare the results of genetically modified species with those obtained for wild type plants.
