Project Description:
Earth observation has the potential to bring about innovation in European agriculture, allowing improved efficiency and reducing the environmental impacts of intensive farming. In preparation for satellite-based services, European capabilities to retrieve of biophysical parameters from hyperspectral optical data are established, but cloud cover will hinder service provision in many regions. Multi frequency, polarimetric SAR data have the potential to provide valuable crop information such as biomass, which could provide substitute and supplementary products. SAR and superspectral data will be co-acquired over two growing seasons in northern and southern Europe. ISOCROP will advance SAR retrieval techniques to a stage where SAR and optical products can be brought together within integrated services based on planned satellite missions.
